THERMOCOUPLE EXTENSION/COMPENSATING CABLE
Thermocouple Extension/Compensating Cable is a lead wire used to transmit the signal from the sensing probe to the instrument for temperature measurement. Extension - grade wire is color coded for identifying thermocouple type. Refer to Wire Color Codes.
Extension/Compensating Cable has similar EMF feature with the thermocouple sensor in particular temperature range; it is used to extend the signal from the cold junction to the instrument. Compared to T/C Grade wire, the extension grade has a lower ambient temperature limit, therefore it may not be used to make sensing probe for measuring higher temperature.
Basically, T/C Extension Wire and Compensating Wire are equivalent in applications, the difference between them:
Extension Wire is made of conductors with identical alloys to the corresponding thermocouple.
Compensating Wire is composed of alloys which are dissimilar with the corresponding thermocouple, but the EMF in the certain temperature range(usually 0 up to 200 °C) is the same as wich of the thermocouple.
